Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are hundreds of parts that make up a lift truck. The forklifts main parts comprise the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. What's more, a forklift consists of a range of attachments. All the components making up a lift truck are all essential since they work together to make the operation of the equipment possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe in detail some of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the machine operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls inside the cab or hurt the operator. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift part made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move upwards and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and various other kinds of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are various types of attachments which could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. Additionally, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various kinds of attachments are useful for transporting different kinds of loads.
