It is totally different to operate a stand-up lift truck compared to a sit-down model. The way you move and lift loads along with your movements are completely different. If you do not have proper training for operating a stand-up unit, you can potentially cause harm co-workers or to yourself. When utilizing a stand-up model, you must follow the proper safety rules. There are several basic operating standards that should be met when operating a stand-up model.
When starting, stand up on the lift truck so as to get a feel for the controls and the steering knob. The steering is handled utilizing the knob steering plate as opposed to a steering wheel. Take note that this specific knob moves exceptionally fast, thus, you should get used to moving it gently in order to be sure not to over steer. The horn is situated on the control handle, like with the control for the movement of the forks and for backwards, forwards. The floor pedal allows the machine to move.
Turn the key to start the forklift's engine if you are set to begin. The forks must not be extended at this stage. If you are moving all-around the floor, the forks should be pointed a little upwards. Do not drive with extended forks. If you are moving forward, move the control handle forward and to make the lift move forward, step on the pedal. If you are backing up, be sure to beep your horn so as to alert those around you. Look behind you before stepping on the pedal so as to make sure the way is clear and safe. Next, while stepping on the pedal, pull the control handle towards you. Stay focused and alert and make sure that you are always operating in a safe manner.
When it comes to turning corners, turn your steering knob in the direction you need to go while keeping your foot on the power pedal and your hand on the control handle. When turning right, the steering knob would move in a clockwise direction during forward travel. If you are turning left, your steering knob will go in a counter-clockwise direction.
The stand-up units take some getting used to, especially if you have just operated sit down units. If you take some time to know the machine and with some training, you can quickly and efficiently handle loads in little time.
