Different Kinds of Aerial Lift
Aerial lifts are a specialized kind of heavy machine which enables employees to be lifted into the air. These equipment could be used to perform maintenance and repairs in areas which are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Like most tools, there are various types of aerial lifts that can be used to perform a variety of jobs. For the utmost safety, each kind of different type of machinery requires proper training and specific qualifications before operation.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are usually called Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic type of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform that is raised up by means of pneumatic power and are mostly utilized indoors. Normally, scissor lifts are the safest kind of lift models. When completely compressed, these scissor lifts are capable of being driven similar to big carts. Normally, when the platform is extended, they can not be driven for safety reasons. Before anyone can utilize these devices, workers should be licensed as operators.
Boom Lifts
The boom lift is a a lot more complex type of aerial lift equipment compared to a scissor lift. The boom lift often has a much wider base to keep the lift anchored. It uses a jointed arm that has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket that allows the operator to lower and lift the bucket. As the arm of the boom is jointed, it can move from side to side too. The boom lift resembles a metal scorpion's tail. Usually, it is used in outdoor construction applications. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to operate than scissor lifts, therefore, operators should be licensed separately for these types of lifts.
