The forklift is a material handling equipment used to lift and move loads from one place to another. Every component of a forklift has a particular function. Different parts could be used to transport the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts which lift and lower the load. There are different kinds of masts for lifting loads to different heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is situated in the cab under the seat. The propane tank is situated on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is positioned in the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all situated inside the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the biggest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, which are located at the back to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
