Prior to buying a new or used forklift, there are some things that you must take into consideration. Think about the following items prior to deciding.
Step 1: What exactly are your needs?
Think about the kinds of loads you would be carrying and how heavy they normally are. Consider the maximum lifting height which you would need. Determine whether you will be utilizing the forklift indoors or outdoors, or both. Measure the width of your narrowest aisles and calculate how much maneuvering space there is. What will be the duration of use per day when it comes to hours?
Step 2: Is a used forklift your best option?
If you would be using the forklift four hours per day or less, you could likely get away with purchasing used.
Step 3: Fuel options
Because electric forklifts are fairly quiet and produce no exhaust emissions, they are recommended for indoor applications. They have large batteries which could last eight hours before you have to recharge it. The cost of purchasing electric forklifts is higher, but the costs of operation are lower. On the plus side, they do not need fuel storage space. They also tend to last longer as they have less moving components. However, the time it takes to recharge the battery must be factored in. This could take up to 16 hours, including recharging and cooling. And battery recharging stations may be needed.
Step 4: Tire choice
Cushion tires are used in forklifts. There are a few options when it comes to tires. Several are fabricated of solid rubber, a few are inflated, and some combine qualities of both - solid pneumatic tires. For indoor application, cushion tires are suggested. For outdoor applications, pneumatic tires are best. Solid pneumatic tires are less likely to be punctured by rough terrain or sharp things so they are the best option for risky conditions.
Step 5: Consider additional options
When purchasing a used or new forklift truck, consider additional alternatives. Look at the various attachments which you may need to customize your forklift. Check out the ergonomics and safety features of the lift truck
Step 6: Evaluate your options
To be able to know what kind of forklift really meets your needs, renting various brands and models is a great idea. A good dealer will agree to help you with this. This will ensure that the type of forklift you finally purchase is the right one for all your needs. Be sure to consult with your dealer.
